Man Arrested After Dramatic Rooftop Standoff in Shanklin

Police from Hampshire Constabulary swooped in the early hours after a man climbed onto a rooftop in Shanklin, Isle of Wight. The drama unfolded just after 5am on Grange Road in the town’s Old Village.

Chaos on Grange Road: Roof Slates Thrown at Police

Locals were jolted awake by loud smashing noises as the man hurled roof slates at officers below. Residents were told to stay indoors for their own safety, while police blocked both ends of Grange Road with a van and car.

Standoff Ends with Arrest

After nearly two hours of tense negotiations, the man finally climbed down shortly after 7am. He was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and taken to Newport Police Station. Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
