A man in his late 30s has tragically died after being hit by a car on the A689 New Road in County Durham in the early hours of Saturday.

The fatal collision happened around 1am between Crook and Howden-le-Wear, just north of the cemetery. The victim was struck by a red Mercedes A-Class. Despite rapid emergency response, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
