Police have launched an urgent probe after a teenage girl was sexually assaulted in the churchyard of Reading Minster, right in the heart of Reading town centre. The attack happened in the early hours of Saturday morning, prompting officers to cordon off the scene at St Mary’s Butts and start a forensic investigation.

No arrests have been made yet, but police are on high alert. A spokesperson said:
“We are investigating a serious sexual assault that took place in the early hours of Saturday morning in the churchyard of Reading Minster.”
“There will be an increased police presence in the area while we carry out enquiries. We understand incidents of this nature cause significant concern, and we are working hard to identify and locate the person responsible.”
