Couple Scammed Out of £9,500 by Fake Police Fraudsters
A pensioner pair have been conned out of a whopping £9,500 by slick scammers pretending to be Met Police officers. On Friday 5 May, a 69-year-old woman and 79-year-old man from the 1 area got a chilling call from fraudsters claiming to be investigating a bank fraud.
Scam Call Led to £9,500 Handed Over
The fake cops spun a tale about a courier being sent to their home to collect cash linked to the investigation. At around 4pm that same day, a man turned up and snagged the £9,500 from the unsuspecting couple.
Police Hunt ‘Black Courier’ After Bold Theft
Officers are on the lookout for the suspect, described as:
- Black male
- Mid 20s
- 5ft 10ins to 5ft 11ins tall
- Slim build
- Short black hair
- Wearing a black long-sleeved top and dark trousers

Safety advice from the force is clear:
- Never share bank details over the phone
- If you’ve revealed info, contact your bank immediately to cancel cards
- Never hand over cash to strangers at your door
- Ask any caller claiming to be a cop for their name and collar number
- Hang up and ring 101 to verify—they won’t mind waiting
- If a stranger shows up claiming to be police, ask for ID and double-check via 101
