Routine Patrol Turns Dangerous on Bridlington Seafront
While patrolling with his tutor constable, PC Broad was tipped off by CCTV operators about two men suspected of drug dealing. As they moved in to conduct a stop and search, one suspect bolted, leaving PC Broad alone with the other.
Despite being inexperienced and not yet cleared for independent duty, PC Broad kept his cool. But the suspect suddenly attacked, shoving him before trying to make a break for it.
Bravery Under Fire: Student Officer Disarms Armed Suspect
PC Broad gave chase. The suspect then pulled a handgun. Undeterred, PC Broad confronted him, ordering him to drop the weapon. In a stunning display of courage, the rookie cop disarmed and subdued the armed man single-handedly.
Further investigation revealed the suspect was part of an out-of-town gang linked to drug dealing and violent crime.
