Johanita Dogbey, 31, was tragically killed at 4 p.m. on Bank Holiday Monday in Brixton, South London. Police say a man approached her from behind and stabbed her. She died at the scene.
Man Arrested, Police Probe Underway
A 33-year-old male suspect has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is being questioned by the Met Police, who have been granted extra time to question him. Authorities confirmed Johanita did not know her attacker.
Family Left Devastated After Senseless Attack
Johanita’s family described themselves as “completely broken” and “devastated” by her brutal death. Her younger brother Maurice told MailOnline, “We are trying to understand what has happened and are completely broken. As far as we know, there was no connection between my sister and the assailant. The whole thing has devastated us. We can’t handle it.”
Her father Yao added, “My kid was lovely and generous. I’m sorry, but I’m at a loss for words.”
Terrifying Details of the Attack
Neighbours revealed that Johanita’s grandmother was on the phone with her when a “terrible scream” was heard, followed by the phone dropping to the floor. Johanita had been heading home after buying a birthday gift for her mother to join a family celebration.
A local witness said, “I was with her dad at the crime scene. He said his daughter had gone to purchase a gift and was on her way home when she was attacked.”
Police Appeal for Help
Detective Chief Superintendent Seb Adjei-Addoh, Lambeth’s local policing commander, urged the public to assist, saying, “My thoughts continue to be with the woman’s family and friends. We have extra officers in the community to offer support and maintain a visible presence. Anyone with information should come forward.”
The Met’s Specialist Crime Command is investigating, reviewing CCTV footage and interviewing witnesses.
