Terrifying A2 Chase Ends in Tragedy: Four-Year-Old Boy Killed
Chilling Premonition Before Deadly Crash
The heartbroken mum of a four-year-old boy killed in a horror crash has revealed a chilling premonition that something dreadful was about to happen. Hayley Maughan told Maidstone Crown Court how panic gripped her as her cousin and his dad “chased” her family along the busy A2 in Kent, moments before tragedy struck.
High-Speed Chase Ends in Catastrophe
The court heard how Hayley’s family were desperately trying to escape in their Ford pick-up as 27-year-old Owen Maughan and his 54-year-old father Patrick gave chase. “They were chasing us. We begged them to stop – the kids were in the car,” she said.
Prosecutor Richard Jory KC slammed Owen’s actions as “deliberate ramming at high speed.” He accused him of weaponising his car to push the family’s vehicle off the road at around 60mph near Pepper Hill, Northfleet.
Horrific Aftermath: Young Boy Fatally Injured
The violent impact flipped the family’s pick-up, sending it crashing off the road. Hayley desperately searched the wreckage but her son Peter was missing. The court heard Peter was thrown from the vehicle and suffered “severe and devastating injuries” to his head, chest, and abdomen, leaving him with no chance of survival.
She found her little boy face down in the grass and screamed for help.
Manslaughter Plea and Ongoing Trial
Owen Maughan has pleaded guilty to manslaughter, dangerous driving causing serious injury, and grievous bodily harm to the family’s driver, Lovell Mahon. Meanwhile, Patrick Maughan denies all charges.
The trial presses on as the court hunts for justice for little Peter, whose young life ended in a deadly family feud on Kent’s A2.
