Failed Fugitive Found Hiding in Hedge After Wild Rampage
A man went on a destructive spree in Amberley before making a daring escape – only to be sniffed out by a police dog hiding in a hedge.
Shambolic Smash-Up in Amberley
Police were called to East Street on Thursday afternoon (6 May) following reports of a man wrecking a home. The suspect smashed plates, broke a vacuum cleaner, and punched holes in a wall.
Escape Attempt Foiled by Police Dog
Officers arrested the 29-year-old but allowed him to collect some belongings. Instead, he bolted through a rear window and vanished. The Dog Unit swooped in with Phantom, a two-year-old German Shepherd, who tracked the suspect deep onto the South Downs.
Captured and Held Under Investigation
Phantom soon found the man crouched in a hedge. The local suspect was re-arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and has since been released under investigation while enquiries continue.
