Mansfield Police Target Knife Crime in Schools
Police officers from Mansfield’s Neighbourhood team hit four primary schools last week with a powerful message about knife crime. As part of the national Operation Sceptre campaign, they shared the tragic story of murdered teenager Ben Kinsella to warn kids about the deadly risks of knives.
Hard-Hitting Talks in Local Schools
PCSO Romek Kordecki led visits to Wainwright Primary Academy, King Edward, Sutton Road, and Intake primary schools. He said, “This is a very difficult subject to speak to 10-year-olds about but ultimately it’s about saving lives and preventing young people from making life-altering mistakes in the future.”
He stressed the importance of educating children before they hit the tough peer pressure of secondary school. “If these visits stop even one young person from carrying a knife, they’ve been worth it,” PCSO Kordecki added. “That’s one less victim and one less offender.”
Operation Sceptre: A Month of Action
Nottinghamshire Police’s month-long Operation Sceptre campaign ran until 20 November. It included intensive patrols, public engagement, and visits to schools and colleges across the county. The focus? Educating youngsters about the real dangers of knives and steering them away from carrying weapons.
PCSO Kordecki praised the schools for their cooperation and said the children were “engaged and receptive” during the sessions. The force vows to keep raising awareness to help stem the tide of knife crime in communities across Nottinghamshire.
