Tragic Crash on London Road: Motorcyclist Dies in Horror Collision
A devastating crash on the B656 London Road, between Langley and Hitchin, claimed the life of 30-year-old motorcyclist Anthony Papworth from Stevenage. The smash happened just before 2pm on Monday, 2 August. Anthony was pronounced dead at the scene.
Family Pays Heartbreaking Tribute
Anthony’s family described him as a loving father, stepfather, and devoted partner to Elise. They said:
“Anthony was proud of his family with three young children whom he adored. He was respected by all who knew him and had a loyal circle of friends. Always reliable, he never hesitated to help anyone in need. Full of life and laughter, his humour and mischief will be deeply missed. He was taken from us during the happiest time of his life.”
The family also thanked the emergency crews and members of the public who tried to save Anthony, including a fellow motorcyclist who stopped to help before police arrived.
Partner’s Emotional Words
Elise Bull, Anthony’s partner, spoke movingly about the loss:
“He was an exemplary father and stepdad, and a love I never thought I’d find. Anthony brought me back from my lowest point and made me whole. We were a team for nearly six years, better together than apart.
“He treasured every moment with our children — from teaching Jacob to tie his shoelaces, to encouraging Lily’s homework, and making sure Joshy was in boxing gloves by age two. His pride in their achievements was boundless. His unconditional love will remain with us forever.
“Anthony’s kindness, fierce loyalty, and genuine personality made him loved by so many. The void he leaves is massive, but I carry on for our children, knowing he’s watching over us and proud.”
Police Appeal for Witnesses
Detective Sergeant David Burstow of the Serious Collisions Investigation Unit said:
“Our thoughts are with Anthony’s family during this difficult time. We ask that their privacy is respected as we continue investigating the collision. Anyone who witnessed the crash or the moments leading up to it, or who has dashcam footage, is urged to contact us quoting Operation Siratro.”
To help the investigation, call police on 101 with any information.
