A 25-year-old British man of Somali heritage has been arrested over the killing of Sir David Amess. Authorities say he was not previously known to security services, but the probe is still in its early stages.
Suspect Caught at the Scene
The man was arrested on Friday at a Methodist church in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex. Sir David Amess, the MP for Southend West, was holding his weekly constituency surgery when the attack happened.
Prevent Scheme Connection
Though the suspect wasn’t on the radar of intelligence agencies before, a Whitehall insider confirmed he was previously involved with the government’s Prevent programme, designed to stop radicalisation.
Investigation Ongoing
Police continue to dig into the case. With the inquiry in its infancy, more information about the suspect and his motives could emerge. Stay tuned for updates.
