Shocking Probe Launched into Matt Hancock Over Alleged Lobbying Scandal
Hancock Under Fire for Pressuring Ethics Commissioner
Matt Hancock is in hot water after being investigated for allegedly trying to influence the ethics commissioner’s enforcement of parliamentary rules. A spokesman for Hancock said he is “shocked and surprised” by the probe but denies any wrongdoing.
Accused of Breaching MP Conduct Rules
The complaints center on a possible breach of the MPs’ code of conduct, which bans any lobbying of the commissioner intended to sway decisions on code violations. The commissioner’s website confirms the investigation but offers no further details. Hancock’s team says he contacted commissioner Mr. Greenberg “in good faith” to provide evidence for an ongoing inquiry.
Hancock’s Troubled Past Fuels Scrutiny
This latest scandal darkens Hancock’s already tattered reputation. The ex-health secretary rose to fame during the COVID-19 crisis but dramatically fell from grace after admitting he broke lockdown rules by kissing an aide in his office. His woes continued last year when he was suspended as a Tory MP for quitting Parliament duties to appear on I’m A Celebrity. His local Conservative Association even declared him “not fit to represent” their seat.
Future Looks Bleak Despite Hancock Quitting Politics
Though Hancock confirmed in December he won’t run in the next general election, these fresh allegations could wreck any hopes of salvaging his public image.
