Cop Seriously Hurt After Being Hit by Car in Grantham
A 36-year-old man is behind bars after a shocking attack on a police officer in Grantham today.
Officer Struck While Talking to Driver
At around 9:40am on 7th October, a female officer was speaking to a man sitting in a black Nissan Juke at the Sainsbury’s car park when the vehicle suddenly reversed into her.
The driver then sped off, heading south on the A52 and out of town via Bridge End Road.
Serious Injuries and Immediate Arrest
The officer suffered severe head injuries, including a fractured skull, and was rushed to hospital by West Midlands Ambulance Service. The full extent of her injuries is still unknown.
Police launched a swift pursuit, arresting the suspect within the hour. He faces multiple charges: failing to stop at the scene, grievous bodily harm, dangerous driving, and possession of cannabis.
Police Chief Condemns Attack
“This was a shocking incident in which an officer was injured while simply carrying out their duties,” said Chief Superintendent Jon McAdam.
“We acted quickly to arrest the suspect and investigations are ongoing.
“It should never be accepted that officers face assaults as ‘part of the job.’ This incident is a stark reminder of the daily risks our officers take to keep people safe.
“Anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage is urged to come forward and assist our investigation.”
