One Year On: Murder of Chessington Man Liam Dent Still Unsolved

This Sunday marks the grim first anniversary of young Liam Dent’s brutal murder in Chessington. The 25-year-old was dragged to death after being deliberately struck by a Ford S-MAX.

Detectives Renew Plea for Witnesses

Police say there are still people with crucial information who have yet to come forward. Detective Inspector Garth Hall from Specialist Crime urged the public:

“Liam had been out enjoying a summer evening with friends and was on his way home when he was killed. He was struck and dragged half a mile — he didn’t stand a chance. This has left a hole in his family that can never be filled.

“We’ve made 10 arrests but still need help piecing together that night. Someone knows what happened. I urge them to do the right thing. Any info shared will be treated confidentially.”

CCTV Footage Released to Jolt Memories

  • Video shows Liam walking with friends near Rhodrons Avenue before the attack.
  • Footage of a Ford S-MAX and black BMW convoy just moments before the collision.
  • A Volvo V40 involved in an altercation with Liam’s group, later found burnt out in Epsom.

The burning of the Volvo and a Ford S-MAX found a mile from the scene suggest efforts to destroy evidence.

Family Pleads for Justice

Liam’s mother Stacey Dent spoke out:

“I know people saw what happened but are scared to speak. This crime was ruthless. Two children have lost their dad; I’ve lost my son. The attacker must not get away with this.”

Maisie Johnson, Liam’s partner, added:

“My children have lost their father. I’ve lost my soul mate. Please come forward if you know anything.”

Investigation Update

  • Police arrested 10 suspects aged 17 to 22 on suspicion of murder and perverting justice. All remain released under investigation.
  • Police remind anyone with info to contact the incident room on 020 8721 4622 or 101 quoting reference Cad 96/26Jul19.

As the anniversary approaches, the hunt for answers in Liam Dent’s tragic death continues. One tip-off could finally bring justice to this shattered Chessington community.
