A tragic incident unfolded in the Tellico area on Wednesday, June 12, when a 2-year-old girl was found unresponsive in a pool at a residential property.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies were dispatched to the scene at approximately 1:30 p.m. following a distressing call about a potential drowning.
According to initial reports from the Sheriff’s Office, several children were outside playing when their mother stepped away momentarily. Upon returning, she discovered her 2-year-old daughter in the pool.
Deputies on the scene performed CPR on the young girl before she was transported to Sweetwater Hospital. Despite the efforts of both the deputies and the medical personnel at the hospital, the girl was tragically pronounced dead.
