Tragedy on the Tracks: Two Dead After Train Hits Rail Workers in South Wales

Two rail workers have died after being struck by a train between Port Talbot Parkway and Bridgend stations this morning. The horrific incident occurred just before 10am near Port Talbot, South Wales.

Fatal Collision Shocks South Wales

Network Rail confirmed the collision involved three people hit by a train. British Transport Police officers rushed to the scene after receiving reports of the accident on the tracks.

Despite the swift response from paramedics and the Welsh Ambulance Service, two people were sadly pronounced dead at the scene. The third individual’s condition has not been disclosed.

Police Launch Urgent Inquiry

“We are making a number of urgent enquiries to understand exactly what happened in the moments leading to this fatal collision,” said Superintendent Andy Morgan from British Transport Police.

“Very sadly two people have died and my officers are now working to identify them and ensure that their families are supported at this incredibly difficult time.”

The Rail Accident Investigation Branch has been notified and is set to investigate the tragic crash.

Emergency Services Responded Promptly

The Welsh Ambulance Service deployed a large response to the incident. Four ambulances, two rapid response vehicles, two units from the Hazardous Area Response Team, and the Wales Air Ambulance were all sent to the scene.

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called just before 10am to reports of a collision between a train and three people in the Port Talbot area. Emergency crews are on site dealing with the incident.”
