Off-Duty Cops Tackle Armed Burglar in Glass-Strewn Hair Salon Chaos

PC Christi Hill and PC Tristan Parsons, then a PCSO, were off duty on 28 October 2018 when they spotted a man breaking into a closed hairdressing salon. The thug had smashed his way in using a golf club, leaving shards of glass scattered everywhere.

Dangerous Struggle with Armed Burglar

As the officers moved in, the burglar threatened nearby members of the public with the club while trying to escape. A fierce struggle broke out as the cops wrestled to disarm him, rolling around in broken glass. A brave member of the public joined the fray to help tackle the suspect.

In a shocking twist, the man stabbed PC Hill in the finger with a hidden hypodermic needle, claiming he was “infected with HIV.” Despite the risk, the officers and civilian managed to restrain and arrest the attacker.

Bravery Honoured at National Police Awards

Hampshire Police Federation Chair Zoe Wakefield praised the officers’ heroism. “This shows police are truly never off duty. Christi and Tristan ran towards danger without protective gear or backup. Their quick action stopped the situation from getting worse — a real credit in the finest British policing tradition.”

She added, “As a Federation and force, we are very proud of them.”

The 25th National Police Bravery Awards, delayed by the pandemic, will now take place on October 12. These awards celebrate extraordinary courage across police forces in England and Wales, recognising heroes like Christi and Tristan.
