Fire Blazes at Portsmouth Recycling Plant – Residents Urged to Stay Clear

Emergency services are battling a fire at a recycling plant on Quatermaine Road, Portsmouth. They warn locals to steer clear of the area and Hilsea residents to shut their windows tight.

Fire Erupts Early Morning at Recycling Site

The blaze broke out just before 6am. Hampshire Fire Service received the first call around 5.45am, reporting between seven and 10 tonnes of recycling waste ablaze. Crews from Cosham, Southsea, Havant, Fareham, and Portchester were rushed to the scene.

Road Blockade and Safety Warnings

“If you travel via Quatermaine Road, avoid the area to allow our crews safe access,” a Hampshire Fire Service spokesman said. “Residents in Hilsea should close all windows and doors.”

Firefighters Using Breathing Apparatus to Tackle Flames

Firefighters deployed breathing apparatus and hose reels to douse the flames. The incident is currently being treated as a “small fire” as crews work to bring it under control.
