Two Arrests After Violent Clashes in Nottinghamshire
Police scrambled to two trouble spots in Nottinghamshire on Thursday, June 23, as violence and abuse against officers marred their duty.
Domestic Disturbance Turns Ugly in Sutton-in-Ashfield
At around 11 a.m., officers were called to a house in Sutton-in-Ashfield following reports of a domestic disturbance. A woman was reportedly assaulted during the incident. While making an arrest, an officer was subjected to vile racial abuse.
A 31-year-old man was promptly arrested on suspicion of assault, threatening to kill, racially aggravated public order offences, and criminal damage.
Officer Injured During Street Fight in St Ann’s
Later that night at 11.25 p.m., chaos erupted again in Booth Close, St Ann’s, where police responded to reports of a street fight. Trying to calm the situation, an officer was punched in the face, sustaining minor injuries.
Police detained a 32-year-old man suspected of assaulting an emergency worker.
Nottinghamshire Police Condemn Attacks on Officers
“It is extremely important that members of the public understand that it is not okay to abuse police officers,” said Sergeant Laura McCullough of Nottinghamshire Police. “It is completely unacceptable for anyone to physically assault or verbally abuse our officers.”
These incidents expose the rising tide of abuse aimed at emergency responders. Notts Police stressed such behaviour is “not part of an officer’s job” and will not be tolerated.
