Police Dog Tracks Down Two Suspects After High-Speed Chase in Crawley
Two men have been arrested after a dramatic police chase in Crawley ended with a clever canine tracking them to their hideout.
Uninsured Car Flees from Police
At around 4.39pm on Wednesday 22 April, officers from the Roads Policing Unit spotted a grey Nissan Micra cruising along Brighton Road, Crawley — but the car was uninsured.
When police ordered the driver to stop, he slammed the pedal to the metal and took off. A pursuit followed until the vehicle was abandoned in Cole Close, with both occupants dashing away on foot.
Police Dog Gonzo Sniffs Out Suspects
Enter PD Gonzo, a six-year-old German Shepherd police dog. The canine tracked the suspects from the abandoned car all the way to a house on Shinwell Walk, off Henderson Road. Inside, officers found two men matching the police descriptions.
Two Crawley Men Arrested and Released Under Investigation
- A 19-year-old Crawley man faces suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, and taking a vehicle without consent.
- A 20-year-old Crawley man is also suspected of dangerous driving, failing to stop, taking a vehicle without consent, driving uninsured, and without a licence.
Both were arrested but have since been released under investigation as inquiries continue.
