Tragic A59 Crash Claims Former York Headmaster

Police have named the 89-year-old man who died in last month’s horror smash near Moor Monkton. He was Michael Rowbottom, a respected former headmaster at English Martyrs School in York, who retired in the early 1990s.

Michael leaves behind his children John, Helen, and Gerard, who are devastated by his loss. His wife, Molly, passed away just last May.

Call for Witnesses After Three-Car Collision

The crash happened around 5.10pm on 25 August on the A59 and involved three vehicles: a red Audi A3 heading towards York, and a black Audi Q5 and silver Mini coming the other way.

Michael was driving the red Audi A3 and was rushed to hospital but tragically died from his injuries.
