Teens Jailed Over Brutal Killing of University Student on London Bus
Three teenagers have been locked up for the savage murder of 21-year-old university student Gabriel Stoyanov in Bromley, southeast London. What started as a row over “boorish behaviour” spiralled into deadly violence on November 4th last year, cutting the young student’s life tragically short.
Row on 181 Bus Sparks Fatal Attack
Gabriel, a business management student, was out drinking with a friend when he boarded the 181 bus. He tried to engage with the trio of defendants—aged 15, 17, and 18—but tensions quickly escalated. Annoyed by Gabriel’s conduct, the group decided to settle the dispute after they got off the bus.
CCTV footage later revealed the chilling aftermath. The teens armed themselves at the 17-year-old’s home before lying in wait outside a takeaway. When Gabriel emerged, he tried to back away, but it was too late.
Knife Attack Leaves Student Dead
- Alfie Kibble, 18, swung a motorcycle chain but missed.
- The 15-year-old hurled a bottle.
- The 17-year-old stabbed Gabriel fatally in the chest.
The attackers fled, leaving Gabriel critically injured. He was rushed to hospital but died from his wounds the following day.
Life Sentences for Murderers, Manslaughter for Accomplice
At the Old Bailey trial, the court heard the defendants claimed self-defence, blaming Gabriel’s “annoying” behaviour. The judge dismissed this, ruling no provocation occurred.
The 17-year-old received a life sentence with a minimum of 15 years. Alfie Kibble, from Bexley, got life with at least 14 years and nine months. The 15-year-old, who lured Gabriel towards the others, was locked up for six years and eight months for manslaughter. All three were also convicted for carrying offensive weapons.
“Nothing Gabriel did justifies this brutal attack,” prosecutor Edward Brown KC said.
This tragic case is a horrifying reminder of how quickly minor disputes can end in deadly violence. Gabriel Stoyanov’s senseless death leaves a community grieving and pleading for peace.
