Mother Arrested Over Son’s Death
The peaceful town of Co Waterford has been rocked by horror after Ruth Purcell Healy was charged with murdering her six-year-old son, Matthew Healy. The mother, from Bishopsfield, Williamstown, appeared at a special sitting of Waterford District Court on February 13th.
Detective Sergeant David Shore told the court that Ms Purcell Healy was arrested at 6:05 pm that same evening and charged with murder at 6:35 pm. Asked to respond to the charge, she simply said, “no, thank you.”
Shock in Waterford as Boy Found Dead
The tragedy unfolded when Matthew was found unresponsive in a car just after midnight on February 9th in Rathmoylan, Dunmore East. Despite desperate efforts, Matthew was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at University Hospital Waterford.
Legal Battle and Community Grief
Judge Kevin Staunton ordered that Purcell Healy be remanded in custody pending further legal action. An application for High Court bail is expected amid ongoing proceedings.
