On Thursday, December 15, 2022, just after 11:45 pm, emergency services rushed to the scene following reports of injuries outside the venue. Around 3,000 people forced their way through the front doors during an Asake concert, sparking panic and chaos.

Fans locked outside in freezing temperatures attempted to break in, leading to violent clashes with police. The intense crowd trouble forced the concert to be abruptly cancelled.

Four Seriously Injured, Police Hold the Line

Lambeth Police confirmed four people are in critical condition in hospital. Officers remain on site to reassure local residents as investigations continue.

“Emergency services were called to the O2 Academy in Brixton after reports that a number of people had been injured when a large crowd tried to enter without tickets. Four people are in critical condition in the hospital. Officers will remain in the area to reassure residents.” – Lambeth Police

Concert Cancelled Mid-Show Amid Booing Fans

The cancellation was announced live on stage, met with applause and boos. The performer explained:

“We have to pause the show because they have broken through the doors. You have 3,000 people who have broken the doors outside, and the police have asked us to close the show for security reasons.”

Despite fans reacting angrily, the message continued:

“Please listen, for your own safety. There are people who have broken through the door, and security is attempting to assist.”
