Tragic Blaze in South Hampstead Flat Claims Life
A devastating fire tore through a first-floor flat in South Hampstead, leaving one person dead. The blaze broke out just before 7pm on Tuesday, January 31st, at a converted semi-detached house on Netherhall Gardens.
Firefighters Battle Flames at Converted Semi-Detached
- Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters from Paddington, North Kensington, and West Hampstead rushed to the scene.
- The fire damaged the first-floor flat as flames engulfed the property.
- An elderly woman was rescued by firefighters and received urgent medical care.
Emergency Services Respond, Cause Under Investigation
Despite the relentless efforts of fire crews, paramedics, and police, the woman was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
A Met Police spokesman confirmed: “At 7.32pm on Tuesday, 31 January the London Fire Brigade alerted police to a fire at a house in Netherhall Gardens, Hampstead. Officers attended with fire crews and London Ambulance Service paramedics. Sadly, despite the best efforts, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Efforts are underway to locate and inform her next of kin.”
The cause of the blaze remains unknown. Authorities have cordoned off the area while a full investigation is underway.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said:
“We were called at 7:27pm on 31 January to reports of a fire at Netherhall Gardens, Hampstead. Multiple resources were dispatched, including an Incident Response Officer, a Clinical Team Manager, and members of our hazardous area response team (HART). Sadly, despite the best efforts of our medics, a person died at the scene.”
