A man has been arrested for arson following a dramatic rescue by police in Kensington, where officers risked their lives to save residents from a fierce fire. Body-worn camera footage reveals their heroic efforts as they battled the blaze.
Fire Erupts in Emperor’s Gate Flats
The terrifying fire broke out just after midnight on March 1 at Emperor’s Gate, SW7. Metropolitan Police officers rushed to the scene, kicking down doors and entering the burning building to rescue trapped residents. The incident involved six flats engulfed by flames, with police working alongside the London Fire Brigade and ambulance crews.
“The bravery and professionalism of the Met officers who responded so rapidly to this terrifying fire show the very best of policing,” said Superintendent Jill Horsfall, overseeing Kensington & Chelsea.
Arson Inquiry Underway After Fiery Night
Police have launched a full investigation, treating the blaze as suspicious. On March 3, a 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life. He remains in custody as detectives probe the cause of the fire.
Seven Officers and Six Residents Treated for Smoke Inhalation
Despite the brave rescue, seven officers and six residents suffered smoke inhalation. All were taken to hospital and have since been discharged. Thankfully, no serious injuries have been reported.
Authorities continue to appeal for information as the investigation unfolds.
