Major Fire Erupts Above Britannia Chip Shop at The Hard
A huge blaze tore through The Hard area this evening, sparked just after 7.45pm above the Britannia Chip Shop. Emergency services rushed to the scene before 8pm as thick smoke and flames engulfed the building.
Firefighters Battle Fierce Blaze with Full Force
Seven fire engines from Southsea, Cosham, Havant, Fareham, and surrounding areas slammed into action. Around 40 firefighters are battling the inferno, using an aerial ladder to tackle the fire on the roof above the chip shop.
Rescue Operation Underway, Roads Closed
Hampshire’s rescue team saved one person from the flames who is now being treated by paramedics from South Central Ambulance. Three paramedics and several police units are also on-site, with all roads around The Hard closed off. Police have urged the public to steer clear of the area.
Locals Watch From a Safe Distance
Patrons from nearby pubs, The Ship Anson and The Invincible, gathered in the street to watch the dramatic scene. They have since been moved to safety as firefighters continue their urgent work.
