Brutal Thief Jailed for Dragging 84-Year-Old Woman to Ground and Stealing £2,500
Shocking Attack on Elderly Woman in Lambeth
Moses Blackwood, 22, of Sunnyhill Road, Lambeth, has been locked up for four years and eight months after a savage robbery. The thug followed an 84-year-old woman from a bank, brutally dragged her to the ground, and snatched her handbag filled with thousands in cash.
How the Crime Unfolded
On 14 February, the elderly woman and her 52-year-old daughter withdrew £5,000 from a Streatham High Road bank. Blackwood watched them carefully, then tailed them all the way onto a bus and to a supermarket on Green Lane in Thornton Heath.
As the women neared their home, Blackwood suddenly pounced. He violently yanked the mum to the pavement and grabbed her bag containing £2,500.
The daughter tried to stop him but was punched and kicked. The thug shoved her to the ground before fleeing on foot.
Police Catch the Coward
Croydon detectives quickly gathered CCTV footage and launched an investigation. Just two months later, Blackwood bizarrely claimed he was forced to commit the robbery. The judge slammed his alibi as a “pack of lies.”
Blackwood pleaded guilty at Croydon Crown Court on 16 June. PC Steve Keahey said:
“This was a vicious attack on two women on their own doorstep which has had a significant impact on their lives since. Blackwood observed the victims for some time and followed them a considerable distance to commit this appalling offence. I hope this sentence brings some measure of comfort and justice for the victims.”
Safety Warning to Public
PC Keahey added a stark warning:
“If you withdraw large amounts of cash, be aware of your surroundings. If someone acts suspiciously, trust your instincts and call the police. Your actions could stop someone else being targeted.”
The ruthless crime and swift justice send a strong message: predators like Blackwood won’t get away.
