Shoplifting Spree Lands Homeless Woman Behind Bars

Amy Jones, 31, with no fixed address, has been locked up for 12 months after a brazen shoplifting rampage across West Sussex and Brighton. Her crime spree lasted from July 4 to September 6, 2023, racking up 19 offences.

Stores Targeted in North Sussex Thefts

Jones hit multiple local shops, stealing goods worth over £2,000. Her haul came from:

  • Co-op on High Street, Shoreham
  • Waterstones on George Street, Hove
  • M&S on Montague Street, Worthing
  • 1 Express on Goring Road, Worthing
  • Several Co-op branches in Worthing (Plaza Parade, South Street, Rowlands Road) and Shoreham (Ham Road)

Assault on Security Guard Adds to Sentence

Jones didn’t just steal. On July 10, she assaulted a security guard at the M&S store on Montague Street during one of her thefts.

Sentenced at Lewes Crown Court

On December 15, Lewes Crown Court sentenced Jones to 12 months in prison. She also received a three-year criminal behaviour order and was fined £187 in compensation.
