Dover Man Darren Shillito Jailed for 18 Years Over Horrific Sex Crimes
Convicted Rapist Locked Up
Darren Shillito, 40, has been sentenced to 18 years behind bars after being found guilty of three counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. He appeared at Canterbury Crown Court on 24 September, where the judge handed down his heavy sentence.
Extra Time & Strict Controls
Following his prison term, Shillito will serve an extra year on licence. He will also face an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), restricting his activities to protect the public.
Abuse Exposed by Relative’s Tip-Off
The shocking crimes came to light in 2019 when a relative of the victim, a primary school-aged girl, alerted police to suspected abuse. Specialist officers launched a thorough investigation, interviewing the victim and others close to her and studying her notes.
Shillito was arrested at his home in Victoria Park, Dover, that November. He later denied all charges but was ultimately convicted by the court.
Police Praise Victim’s Bravery
“This was a very troubling case and I would like to praise the courage of the young victim and her family,” said Detective Sergeant Daniel Hall of Kent Police’s Vulnerability Investigation Team.
“Shillito shows no remorse and his denials have only worsened the ordeal. We are pleased this dangerous man is now off the streets for a considerable time.”
“We urge anyone suffering abuse, or who suspects it, to contact police immediately. We’re committed to protecting victims and bringing offenders to justice.”
