Knife-Wielding Thief Targets Joggers in Sheffield Woods
Pavel Salar, once of Stradbroke Walk, Sheffield, was locked up yesterday (Tuesday 17 November) at Sheffield Crown Court. He pleaded guilty to two counts of robbery and two counts of carrying a bladed article.
Phone Snatched at Knife Point
On 22 April, Salar struck in Shirtcliffe Woods, near Beaver Hill Road. He sneaked up behind an 18-year-old dog walker and casually asked for the time. When the victim pulled out his phone, Salar threatened to stab him unless he handed it over.
The teen tried to flee, but Salar grabbed him, nabbed the phone, and fled the scene.
Second Attack on Young Jogger
On 2 May, Salar targeted a 16-year-old boy jogging at Richmond Heights. Repeating the same ploy—asking the time—he then flashed a knife and stole the boy’s phone before running off towards Sheffield Parkway.
Police Track Stolen Phones and Find Knife
Detective Constable Ryan Griffiths revealed investigators traced one stolen phone to its last location. A search of Salar’s home uncovered a knife in his coat pocket and clothing matching eyewitness descriptions.
“Robbery is a frightening offence and leaves victims feeling vulnerable and scared. Salar deliberately targeted young men out alone, using a knife to instil fear. This is completely unacceptable.
I am pleased Salar pleaded guilty and is now facing jail time,” said DC Griffiths.
In addition to robbery and knife charges, Salar also admitted two counts of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs, offences dating back to 2018.
