Between 13 and 20 November 2023, a string of thefts hit supermarkets along Sea Street and Canterbury Road. Shoppers and store owners were left shocked as groceries, household items, and other goods vanished.

The crime didn’t stop there. On 20 November, candles were reportedly stolen from a shop on Mortimer Street, adding fuel to the city’s shoplifting turmoil.

Perp Arrested After Intense Police Probe

Canterbury’s Victim Based Crime Team launched a thorough investigation, leading to the arrest of Josh Norton, a man with no fixed address, on Thursday 23 November.

Norton now faces five counts of theft.

Magistrates Court Showdown Looms

He appeared at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on Saturday 25 November and was remanded in custody.

Norton is due back in court on Wednesday 29 November for his next hearing.
