Dangerous Knife Attack Lands Man 12 Years Behind Bars

Richard Hall, of Beaulieu Close, Toothill, has been jailed for a brutal knife attack that left his victim fearing for their life. The 12-year sentence follows a spate of crimes including grievous bodily harm with intent, burglary, breach of a suspended sentence, and possession of a bladed article.

Stabbed Eight Times in His Own Home

The shocking assault took place on November 13, 2021, when Hall stabbed his victim eight times with a kitchen knife. Injuries included deep wounds to the hand, torso, leg, and neck, resulting in a punctured lung. The victim, who had been trying to help Hall, thought they were going to die during the prolonged and savage attack.

“Your victim certainly thought he was going to die.” – His Honour Judge Jason Taylor KC

“This was a prolonged and persistent attack. You caused grave injury.”

“The offence was committed in his home where he should have felt safe.”

“You do pose a significant risk of harm. The public need protection from you.”

Burglary and Medication Abuse Behind Attack

Detective Constable Lily Cockerill of Wiltshire Police revealed that Hall’s violent outburst was fueled by drugs stolen in a previous pharmacy burglary.

“Hall attacked a friend in his own home who had been trying to help him. His actions were fuelled by his use of medications, stolen from a previous burglary at a pharmacy.”

“The effect on the victim has been profound and has damaged all his personal relationships.”

“It has taken a long time for this result to come about. I thank the victim for his strength in standing by the police and court process.”

Extended Jail Term and Fine

Hall was sentenced to an extended term of 12 years, including 8 years and 3 months behind bars, plus an extra 3 years and 9 months of supervised release. He was also slapped with a £190 fine. Hall received a 25% sentence reduction for pleading guilty early.
