Son Handed 11 Years for Brutal Dad Attack
James Sweeney, 40, has been slammed with an extended 11-year prison sentence at Nottingham Crown Court. The vicious thug was found guilty of grievous bodily harm with intent after savagely attacking his 68-year-old father.
Horrific Home Attack in Worksop
The terrifying assault happened on May 25, 2019, at the victim’s home in Northwood, Worksop. Paramedics arriving on the scene heard Sweeney blame his dad’s injuries on a fall. But the victim told them a different story — his son had “given him a good kicking.” The dad later confirmed to police it was Sweeney who attacked him.
Drugs Dispute Sparks Brutality
Sources say Sweeney flew into a rage over drugs before launching the savage attack. The victim suffered multiple injuries and spent over 60 days in Doncaster Royal Infirmary. He is now seriously ill and living in a nursing home, unable to give evidence in court.
Police Praise Stiff Sentence
“Sweeney launched a vicious and sustained attack on his own father,” said Detective Sergeant Matthew Grant. “He is clearly a dangerous individual with a propensity for violence. I’m pleased our evidence-led investigation has removed him from the streets.”
