Birmingham Man Jailed for 11 Years Over Daesh Terror Links
Kyle Marcano, 28, from Birmingham, was found guilty at Birmingham Crown Court of four counts of spreading terrorist material and one count of belonging to a banned terror group.
He was sentenced yesterday to 11 years behind bars, plus an added four-year extended licence after being declared a dangerous offender.
Incriminating Evidence from Terror Chat Group
The court heard Marcano was active in a chat group sharing extremist content. He swore allegiance to the former Daesh leader and shared terrorist propaganda, including a Daesh recruitment video.
Marcano pleaded guilty to these offences last November.
His arrest came in March 2023 during an unrelated police investigation when officers seized his phone and uncovered his involvement with the terror group. He was immediately arrested on terrorism charges.
Accomplice Also Jailed for Terror Offences
A second man linked to the same chat group, 19-year-old Muhammed Maroof of Birmingham, pleaded guilty to four terrorism offences earlier this year. He was sentenced to nearly five years in prison.
Counter-Terrorism Chief Vows Continued Action
Detective Chief Superintendent Alison Hurst, Head of West Midlands Counter-Terrorism Unit, said:
“The jury found Marcano guilty of being a fully-fledged member of Daesh based on the evidence presented.”
“Marcano and Maroof knowingly shared videos and images containing very disturbing and dangerous content.”
“We will continue to protect local communities by working with partners and the CPS to pursue and prosecute those who support terrorism. Our top priority is the safety of everyone living, working, and visiting the West Midlands.”
