Burglar Caught by Fingerprints Sentenced to Four Years

A 23-year-old burglar has been slammed with a four-year prison sentence after forensic fingerprint evidence linked him to two shocking break-ins in Canterbury.

Fingerprints Nail Burglar at Two Crime Scenes

Kent Police’s forensic team first found fingerprints at a burglary in Long Meadow, Canterbury, dating back to August 2018. The same prints later popped up at another break-in on Rough Common Road in September 2019.

During the second burglary, the startled homeowners caught the intruder inside their property. When they tried to stop him, the thug stabbed one of them before fleeing with stolen jewellery.

Bardhyl Poga’s Crime Spree Uncovered

  • Poga targeted an empty house in Long Meadow in August 2018, smashing windows and trashing the place. His prints were found on broken glass.
  • In September 2019, he broke into a Rough Common Road home. The residents caught him in the act, resulting in a knife attack.
  • Police matched the fingerprints from both scenes to Bardhyl Poga, a man with no fixed address.

Police Track Down Burglar, Justice Served

After a thorough manhunt, detectives found Poga in Essex and charged him with both break-ins. He admitted the offences and was locked up for four years at Canterbury Crown Court on 15 July 2020.

“Like all burglars, Bardhyl Poga showed no restraint breaking into homes to benefit himself. It must have been terrifying for the victims to find him inside their property,” said DS Jay Robinson, Senior Investigating Officer.

“Our team’s forensic skill and attention to detail ensured Poga’s fingerprints were caught and linked across scenes, putting him behind bars.”
