Burglar Busted After Sneaking Into Home Near Watling Street
Michael Williams broke into a house near Watling Street in the early hours of May 31, 2022. He stole tablets, phones, wallets, bank cards, and a handbag before making his escape.
CCTV Snaps Thief Tossing Stolen Goods
Police launched an immediate investigation when the victims reported the burglary. CCTV footage caught Williams near the crime scene, showing him discarding the stolen handbag and heading home with a phone and laptop.
Williams even tried (and failed) to withdraw £250 from an ATM using one of the stolen bank cards.
Perp Trapped with Stolen Camcorder at Home
Officers identified Williams, of Napier Road, Gillingham, and arrested him on June 1. They also found a camcorder stolen during the break-in hidden at the back of his house.
Williams was charged with burglary and fraud. He pleaded guilty at Maidstone Crown Court and was handed a hefty sentence: four years and seven months in prison for burglary, plus one year and three months for breaching a suspended sentence. He must serve half his time before parole.
Detective Slams ‘Heinous’ Crime by ‘Prolific Offender’
“Williams is a prolific offender who disgracefully crept into a property while the occupants were asleep,” said Detective Constable Dan Bister from the Chief Constable’s Crime Squad.
“Burglary is a heinous crime that leaves victims feeling violated and unsafe in their own homes. Williams should be ashamed. I hope his victims can now move on, knowing he’s behind bars.”
