Burglar Busted Crouching Behind Hedge in Retford
Robert Brammer’s sneaky spree came to a crashing halt when police caught him red-handed, crouched behind a hedge trying car doors in West Furlong, Retford.
Prosecco, Sovereigns and Stolen Keys: Burglar’s Loot
Officers were tipped off about a night burglary while the victim was away. They found her car missing, front door damaged, and a trail of stolen goods including four bottles of prosecco, a collection of sovereign coins, and a shifted portable CCTV camera.
On 19 January 2023, cops received a call about a man fiddling with car doors and prowling gardens around 12.45am. Brammer, 52, was found trying to hide and lying flat on the floor while nervously rifling his pockets.
Armed with Wrench and Gloves, Burglar Tried to Bolt
Upon arrest, Brammer was caught wearing rubber gloves. Nearby, police found a wrench, torch, scissors, and a set of BMW keys—items he reportedly tossed moments before police closed in.
Further investigations revealed a spree of break-ins across the street, with Brammer snapping locks at multiple houses, stealing BMW keys, and attempting further unauthorized entries the same night.
Six Years Behind Bars for Serial Burglar
Brammer, of Bawtry Road, Harworth, was also caught handling stolen goods, including a second set of car keys stolen earlier. He faced nottingham/" title="Nottingham" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Nottingham Crown Court on 24 March, pleading guilty to burglary, handling stolen goods, attempted burglary, and assaulting an emergency worker.
He was sentenced to six years and four months in prison.
“Brammer is a prolific offender who targets people’s homes while they are asleep upstairs or are away,” said Police Investigator Mark Duncombe.
“His crimes have brought utter misery to the victims and those affected by his crimes. No one deserves to have their safe space invaded like this.”
