Thief Strikes Twice – Nabbed After Targeting Elderly Man’s Garage
84-Year-Old Targeted in Nighttime Break-In
An 84-year-old pensioner woke to find his garage raided overnight, with a Henry vacuum cleaner and other household goods stolen from his Sutton-in-Ashfield home. Luckily, a kind neighbour spotted the vacuum dumped in the street on Rufford Close and returned it just hours later on 26 July 2020.
Repeat Burglar Snared After Second Attempt
Just nine days later, David Bowler, 34, returned under cover of darkness to try the same trick again. This time, the victim’s security light came on, scaring Bowler off before he could steal anything. The following morning, after neighbours identified Bowler, the victim flagged down police.
Thief Sentenced to 20 Months Behind Bars
Police arrested Bowler on 6 October 2020. He later pleaded guilty to burglary and attempted burglary at Nottingham Crown Court. Living on Wheatfield Way, Sutton-in-Ashfield, Bowler was slammed with a 20-month prison sentence for his crimes.
Detective Sergeant Andrew Hall said: “Burglary is unacceptable and Bowler tried his luck a second time, only to be rumbled by the victim. It is great to see that he has been punished as a consequence of his actions and I am glad we have swiftly been able to bring Bowler to justice.”
