Tragic Death of 15-Year-Old Sebastian Kalinowski in Huddersfield

Mother and Partner Accused of Abuse Leading to Boy’s Death

Sebastian Kalinowski, 15, died at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary in August 2021 after being found unconscious at home. Prosecutors allege his mother, 35-year-old Agnieszka Kalinowska, and her partner, 36-year-old Andrzej Latoszewski, subjected him to brutal abuse before his death.

Both deny murder charges, though Latoszewski has admitted to manslaughter. Earlier this week, they pleaded guilty to child cruelty, which they had previously denied.

Shocking Court Evidence: Injuries and Odd Behaviour

CPR attempts revealed Sebastian had multiple bruises on his forehead, jaw, chest, abdomen, and limbs. Doctors expressed “significant concern” over his injuries. West Yorkshire Police Detective Inspector Oliver Coates told jurors Latoszewski tried to explain the bruises by blaming fights and falls from trees.

“He said Sebastian was a ‘good child’ and the worst punishment was a ‘smacked’ backside,” trainee nurse Sophie Sykes testified.

She also described Latoszewski’s behaviour at the hospital as “a little inappropriate,” noting he was “laughing and smirking” while recounting stories about Sebastian despite appearing upset.

Brutal “Punishments” Uncovered

Prosecutors claim Sebastian endured escalating punishments from his mother and her partner, including being hit with a piece of wood and whipped with a cable. A family friend testified Latoszewski believed Kalinowska was “too soft” on Sebastian, while the witness felt the boy’s punishments for truancy and lying were “too severe,” involving bans from family outings.

Trial Continues as Justice Awaits

The trial is ongoing as the court hears more about the tragic circumstances surrounding Sebastian’s death.
