Brutal attacker Christopher Hartley jailed for 17 years after terrifying assaults on two young women

Isolated attacks leave victims fearing for their lives

Christopher Hartley, 22, used violence and intimidation to brutalise two young women in separate, chilling attacks. The victims, aged 16 and 18, were taken to remote locations where they lived through harrowing ordeals, both fearing they might not survive.

First attack on dog walk ends in violent rape

In June 2018, Hartley lured the 16-year-old on a dog walk near his home in Adwick-Le-Street, Doncaster. When she refused his demands for sex, he put her in a headlock, squeezing her neck before raping her.

Second attack in Derbyshire car repeats horrific pattern

A year later, Hartley picked up the 18-year-old victim and drove her to a remote spot in Derbyshire. He then raped her in the car, choking and pushing her during the ordeal.

Police praise victims’ bravery and urge caution

Investigating officer DC Kath Coulter said: “Hartley is a serious danger to young people, and I’m glad he’s now behind bars for these utterly horrific attacks.”

“Both victims showed incredible courage and dignity throughout. They wanted me to remind everyone using dating apps to take safety seriously: get to know people first, tell friends where you’re going, and always trust your instincts” she added.

“If things go wrong, call 999 immediately. And if you have been assaulted, call 101 or report online — we will listen and help.”

Lengthy jail time and lifelong restrictions

Hartley was found guilty of seven offences including rape, sexual assault, and attempted strangulation after an eight-day trial. On Monday 7 December, he was sentenced to 17 years in prison with an extra four years licence. He’ll remain on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life and be subject to lifelong restraining orders to protect his victims.
