Drunk Driver Simon Allport Jailed for Causing Death of Amie Linton

Simon Allport, 43, from Stockton-on-Tees, has pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving after a horrific crash in Stokesley.

Deadly Head-On Collision on Wrong Side of Road

On 14 July 2020 at 5.30pm, Allport was behind the wheel of his black BMW M4 Coupe on Tanton Road when disaster struck. Traveling on the wrong side, he narrowly avoided a head-on crash with another vehicle before smashing into a silver Nissan Qashqai coming the opposite way.

The impact forced the Nissan off the road and into a field. Tragically, the Qashqai’s driver, 33-year-old Amie Linton, later died in hospital from her injuries.

Under the Influence and Over the Limit

Investigators from the Major Collision Investigation Team revealed Allport had been drinking at the Master Cooper pub before taking a friend out for a spin. He was found to be more than one-and-a-half times over the legal alcohol limit when arrested after the crash.

Allport now faces a hefty punishment. In addition to a prison sentence, he’s been banned from driving for five years and ten months.

Police Warn Against Drunk Driving

“Simon Allport’s selfish and deadly actions have changed lives forever,” said Detective Inspector Jez Bartley. “We hope today’s sentence sends a clear message to anyone who thinks drinking and driving is acceptable.”

“My thoughts are with Amie’s loved ones, who have shown immense courage during this heartbreaking case.”
