Driver Jailed for Drug-Fuelled Crash That Killed Beloved Husband
David Bond, 43, from Worrall Hill, Lydbrook, has been locked up for five years after causing a deadly crash while high on cocaine. The court found him guilty of causing death by careless driving with drugs in his system.
High on Cocaine During Fatal Collision
At 123 Crown Court, it emerged that Bond was coming down from a cocaine high when the fatal crash happened. Despite his claims that the drug didn’t affect his driving, a jury at 1 Crown Court unanimously found him guilty in March.
Her Honour Judge Macmillan sentenced Bond and slapped on a five-year driving ban to kick in after his release.
Police Warn Drivers: Don’t Risk It
PC Brian Webb from the Roads Policing Unit blasted Bond’s reckless choice. “Bond’s decision to drive after taking drugs resulted in the tragic loss of Mr Meadows’ life,” he said.
“I hope other motorists remember this incident before deciding to take drugs and get behind the wheel. Bond refused to admit using drugs at first and clearly didn’t consider the consequences.”
Widow’s Heartbreaking Tribute
In a moving court statement, widow Sue Meadows shared the shattering impact of the crash. She revealed the 30 years she spent with her late husband Nigel, nearly 28 married, and how their future plans were wiped out in an instant.
“It is so difficult to express the utter devastation I feel. The moment I was told Nigel had died, my world fell apart. He was my soulmate, my life. I feel like I have nobody—no mum, no dad, no husband.”
“My life is empty without him. I’m just drifting without purpose, unable to get over losing him. I will never be the same again.”
