Drunken thug pounds man in kebab shop brawl

A Mansfield takeaway turned ugly when Tony Shooter, 46, launched a brutal unprovoked attack on a man in front of the queue at King Kebab.

Violent attack in Leicester Street takeaway

Shooter was next in line waiting to order when he snapped after seeing the victim complain to staff. Without warning, Shooter started punching the man repeatedly in the face, continuing the savage assault while the victim lay helpless on the floor. The brawl dragged on for several minutes, with Shooter even twisting the man’s head in a fierce headlock.

Drinks-fuelled rampage ends with cuts and bruises

The victim finally broke free and fled the scene with cuts to his face and arm. Shooter admitted downing eight pints and four shots earlier that day before the 28 August 2022 attack.

‘Nasty drunk’ given suspended sentence

Already serving a community order for assault, Shooter faced justice at Nottingham Crown Court on 5 January. He pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm. Judge Steven Coupland labeled him a “nasty drunk” and blasted his brutal behaviour as “appalling” and pointless interference.

“It was none of your business what was happening in the shop but you made it your business. People tried to stop you, but you carried on this nasty assault,” the judge said.

Shooter, of Hickling Court, Mansfield, was locked up for 14 months suspended for 18 months and slapped with £200 in court costs.

Police warn alcohol isn’t an excuse for violence

PC Andrew Brundish condemned Shooter’s drinking-fuelled rampage:

“Without provocation, Shooter attacked a man simply waiting for food. This went on for several minutes and thankfully the injuries were cuts and bruises rather than worse.

“Shooter’s heavy drinking is no excuse. Nottinghamshire Police won’t tolerate violence like this and hope Shooter learns from this and changes his ways.”
