Ex-MP Jared O’Mara and Staff Face Court Over Fraud Claims
Jared O’Mara, the disgraced former MP for Sheffield Hallam, has been summoned to appear in court over alleged expenses fraud. The summons, issued on 19 August 2021, also names his former chief of staff, Gareth Arnold.
Seven Fraud Charges for O’Mara
The pair must attend Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on 24 September 2021. O’Mara, 39, from Walker Close, Sheffield, faces seven counts of fraud. He also stands accused of arranging to facilitate the control or use of criminal property, breaching the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002.
Staffers Also Charged
Arnold, 28, of Hunter House Road, Sheffield, faces six counts of fraud. A third man, John Woodliff, 42, from Dunninc Terrace, Sheffield, is charged with facilitating criminal property offences under the same legislation.
Allegations Span 2018 to 2020
The alleged fraudulent activity dates between October 2018 and February 2020. The case shines a harsh spotlight on former MP O’Mara’s troubled political career.
