Man Jailed for Defying Child Abduction Warning
Peter Murphy, 38, from Millwards, was jailed for 42 weeks at Hatfield Remand Court on Monday, March 21. He admitted charges linked to a 16-year-old girl.
Ignored Official Warning Not to Contact Teen
Murphy was slapped with a Child Abduction Warning Notice (CAWN) on March 4 after concerns over his behaviour. The notice clearly told him to stop all contact with the teenager.
But Murphy blatantly ignored the warning. He kept meeting the girl and even helped hide her from responsible adults.
Police Crack Down on Protecting Vulnerable Kids
Detective Constable Jemma Warburton, from the Safeguarding team, said: “We will take action against anyone who targets vulnerable young people.
“The Child Abduction Warning Notice prevents contact with children. Ignoring it can lead to criminal charges and helps build prosecution cases.
“Murphy was arrested at the weekend after being spotted with the girl. He deliberately chose to meet her and is fully responsible for his actions.”
Magistrates Slam Defiant Behaviour
She added: “The court noted Murphy breached a suspended sentence and failed to show any signs of rehabilitation. He knowingly aided a child in avoiding responsible people.
This prison sentence sends a strong message: we will use every power to protect young people in our community.”
