Ashford Street Pastor Knocked Out in Shocking High Street Attack
Tyger Walker, 20, launched a brutal punch at a volunteer street pastor trying to help a distressed woman in Ashford’s High Street on the evening of Tuesday 22 July 2022.
Walker was arrested shortly after the attack and later charged with assault and threatening behaviour towards police.
Thug’s Past Catches Up – Jail Time for Violence and Drugs
The 20-year-old, from Whitfield Road, Ashford, appeared at Canterbury Crown Court on Wednesday 16 November. He was handed a 12-month sentence at a Young Offenders’ Institution.
The punishment included activating a suspended sentence from a previous assault in Ashford town centre back in September 2021. He also got an extra month concurrent for possession of cocaine and cannabis found on him in June 2022.
Attack on Good Samaritan Shocks Police and Locals
The street pastor was offering support on the streets when he spotted a woman in trouble and stepped in to help. As he approached her, Walker suddenly struck him in the face, knocking him to the ground.
Police arrived quickly, arresting Walker nearby. He then made chilling threats to kill the attending officer and target a family member of the cop.
“This was an unprovoked attack on someone who was providing help to people in the night-time economy,” said PC Trevor Moon, Kent Police’s investigating officer.
“I hope the incident has not discouraged the victim from taking part in the excellent work street pastors do, and that our quick response and arrest on the night gives them a feeling of safety when out in future.”
