Ex-Con Jailed After Throwing Safe and Threatening Woman
Christopher Marlborough-Jones, 33, with no fixed address, was sentenced to two years and three months behind bars at Canterbury Crown Court on 14 January 2022.
Shocking Attack and Threats
Marlborough-Jones, already on the Sex Offenders Register for exposure, hurled a safe at a woman he knew in Canterbury’s Spring Lane area in May 2021. The safe missed the victim, but he didn’t stop there – he threatened to kill her if she supported any prosecution.
He was swiftly charged just three days later but soon broke multiple court orders.
Serial Breacher of Court Orders
- Contacted his victim twice despite a restraining order in September and October 2021.
- Failed to inform police of his whereabouts in September, breaching Sex Offender notification rules.
- Bought a phone and opened a Facebook account, violating his Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
- Sent abusive messages to another woman known to him.
Marlborough-Jones pleaded guilty to assault, perverting justice, breaching multiple orders, and sending malicious communications.
Police Praise Victims’ Courage
Kent Police investigator Daniel Webley said: “Kent Police works to obtain court orders so we can protect vulnerable people and we will always investigate breaches to keep those people safe. Marlborough-Jones repeatedly broke court orders designed to protect victims. I am pleased the court has recognised the seriousness of these offences. I pay tribute to the courage of the victims who stood firm despite Marlborough-Jones’ threats and intimidation.”
