Man Jailed for Acid Attack Threat in Shocking Canterbury Incident

Andrew Maloney was handed a 16-month sentence at Canterbury Crown Court on Thursday, 19 May 2022. He admitted possession of an offensive weapon, affray, and criminal damage in a previous hearing.

Corrosive Substance Identified

Authorities tested the substance involved in the attack, discovering it was a strong alkali. It was later confirmed as sodium hypochlorite, a dangerous corrosive chemical.

Kent Police Crack Down on Acid Crime

PC Sophia Lateu, the investigating officer, said: “Use of corrosive substances to injure or threaten others is totally unacceptable and this case shows we will take action against those who do so.”

“I am pleased the quick actions of officers on the night, and the swift investigation that followed, has led to this offender being jailed just over a month after these offences took place.”
