Man Jailed for Fatal M6 Crash That Killed Nurse
Robert Ward, 56, has been locked up for causing the death of Victoria Kavanagh in a shocking M6 crash two years ago.
Fatal Collision at M6 Junction 10
On 27 July 2020, Ward changed lanes at Junction 10 of the M6 without checking properly. His car smashed into Victoria Kavanagh’s Citroen C1, leaving the 41-year-old critically injured. Tragically, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Ward Pleads Guilty After Denial
Ward initially denied responsibility but flipped his plea to guilty for causing death by careless driving. On 16 December at Wolverhampton Crown Court, he was sentenced to 34 weeks in jail. He was also banned from driving for 16 months and one week, starting after his release.
Family Pays Heartfelt Tribute to Nurse
“Victoria was a loving mother and daughter and a friend to everyone she met,” her family said. “She graduated 18 months ago in children’s nursing and landed her dream job working in safeguarding children. She had just been accepted to study for her Masters in Public Health and had so much to look forward to. She will leave behind a massive hole in our lives and will be forever missed.”
DC Damian Gibson from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit praised the family’s strength: “Ms Kavanagh’s family have shown a great degree of patience and dignity having to wait for this case to come to its conclusion.”
